ABOUT US
CARAIVAVIVA is a non-profit association based in Caraíva, the oldest village in Brazil (1537) in the southern state of Bahia. It was founded in 2009 by Daniel Bangalter, Monica Viana and Abdalio Paes Landim Bastos to carry out and support projects aimed at improving the quality of life in Caraíva in the fields of culture, education, health, environmental conservation and sustainability.
Since its founding, Caraíva, for its geographic isolation, had to find ways to meet its basic needs without relying on grants from abroad. This has created a place miraculously preserved but also lacking of essential services.
If the fishing village now receives in summer tourists lovers of unspoiled nature tourism, sensitive bucolic charm of the sandy streets of Caraíva, the river bank and the wonderful starry sky preserved by the lack of public lighting, the holiday season is too short to sustain the village the rest of the year.
To improve the quality of life in Caraíva in the fields of culture, education, health, environmental preservation, sustentability and provide better opportunities for the youth of the village, your contribution is welcomed.
A TEAM OF 17 PEOPLE
In 2018, the CARAIVAVIVA team has 7 teachers, 5 coordinators-teachers, 2 assistants and 2 general service assistants. Monica Viana, psychoanalyst, vice president, is the general coordinator of the NGO.
